Diane M. McKeel Scholarship in Public Affairs

Provides assistance to enrolled PPPM undergraduate majors. Based on academic merit, financial need, and demonstrated interest in community development and service toward public good. The McKeel Scholarship will be announced on the PPPM Undergraduate Major Canvas site when applications are open (all PPPM majors are automatically added to this Canvas site).

The Gregory R. Pulliam Student Assistance Award

Supports undergraduate PPPM majors with expenses directly related to a summer internship or research opportunity. Eligible expenses may include travel, books, supplies, materials, tuition, fees, or conference-related fees/travel. Preference is given to students whose research or internship is in the area of community development. Primary selection criteria are academic performance and the merits of the student’s intended research and internship plans.

As available, by application fall and winter terms, must be currently enrolled.

Scholarships

Scholarships in the College of Design are open for application by students who are enrolled majors within any of our disciplines. A select number of scholarships within certain disciplines are available for application by students who are applying for admission to a College of Design program.

The scholarships in our college have been made possible by donations from private parties, both individuals and business organizations. Many are provided by alumni who have been moved to give back, and who want to be part of helping to support students today as they earn their own degrees.

College of Design Funding Sources

Fred and Elva Cuthbert Emergency Student Scholarship

Provides financial assistance to students who meet the following criteria and have encountered a situation involving unusual financial hardship caused by a family emergency, injury, illness, or circumstances beyond his/her control. Eligible students will be:

1. Undergraduate of sophomore standing or higher and declared major in architecture; landscape architecture; or planning, public policy and management
   or
2. Graduate students of any level in architecture; landscape architecture; or community and regional planning

College of Design Student Travel Fund (up to $500, varies)

Awarded on the basis of faculty and personal references and need to travel as relates to purpose of this award, the pursuit of knowledge to benefit both the individual student and College of Design through the sharing of experiences. Recipients are required to give a presentation in the form of a slide show, display, or lecture following completion of travel. Multiple awards. Typically advertised early in the school year.

• Oregon American Planning Association (OAPA) Scholarship
• IBHS and ACSP Land Use Planning Awards: (PDF) Each year the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) make a $500 award to a student in recognition of scholarship in land use planning and natural hazards. The winner is chosen from among the authors of papers presented at the ACSP annual conference.

• Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA.org) Scholarships
• Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program: In 2007, Congress created the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. Under this program, borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on their eligible federal student loans after they have made 120 payments on those loans under certain repayment plans while employed full time by certain public service employers.

Student Employment

Federal Aid FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FAFSA distributes 80 billion dollars a year in financial aids to students through postsecondary institutions. We encourage students to apply for FAFSA to apply to federal student aid such as Pell grants, student loans and college work-study.

College Work Study: There are many opportunities for those with work-study eligibility to work on and off campus in policy and planning-relevant positions. It is highly recommended that you request work-study as part of your FAFSA financial aid package. You should speak with faculty that you are interested in working with to see if a position can be developed for you. PPPM workstudy positions are advertised at the Career Center website.
